• Foundation: The estate was acquired by Jorge Raúl Rivera Sr. in 1979. Soon after, the Salvadoran Civil War broke out, rendering the land in Chalatenango inaccessible and unmanageable for over a decade.
• The Timber Era: During and after the war, the family participated in a government reforestation program, planting thousands of pine trees, walnut trees, and white oaks on the property for timber.
• The Specialty Shift: In 2003, inspired by the emerging Cup of Excellence (COE) auctions, Jorge Raúl Rivera Jr. and his brother decided to transform the land into a specialty coffee farm, planting Pacamara directly beneath the mature pine forest canopy.
